Vape oil is for vapes, tinctures go under tongues. It’s pretty simple, but there’s a lot to unpack. Let’s find out why you probably shouldn’t put CBD vape oil under your tongue. If you own a vape and you’re interested in vaping CBD oil, then there is definitely a chance that it is possible! This is because each vaporizer has its own individual
Can You Put CBD Vape Oil Under Your Tongue?
Spoiler alert: No, it is not a good idea to put CBD vape oil, also known as CBD vape concentrate, under your tongue. Technically, there’s nothing wrong with the idea, but the steps involved are ridiculous, and there are much better ways to orally ingest CBD.
Learn why you shouldn’t try to break open your vape cartridges to stick oil under your tongue. Here’s another hint: Glass is involved.
Can you put CBD under your tongue?
Yes, putting CBD under your tongue, called sublingual CBD administration , is a great way to use this non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Most CBD tinctures are designed to be applied under your tongue since this route offers increased effectiveness. Not all CBD products are designed to go under your tongue, however.
Why would you take CBD oil under your tongue?
People put CBD oil under their tongues because the membrane there is thin and there’s a big artery in the area . CBD absorbs directly into this artery, which conveniently leads right to the brain. Holding a CBD tincture under your tongue for a minute or so somewhat mitigates the inherently low bioavailability of oral cannabinoid ingestion.
What is “CBD vape oil”?
So, which types of CBD can you put under your tongue, and which can’t you? Let’s start by defining some terms: “CBD vape oil” is the type of CBD extract that’s put inside disposable vape cartridges. This term is somewhat misleading — unlike nicotine vape oil, which is watery, CBD “vape oil” is viscous and thick like honey.
“CBD vape oil” vs. “CBD tincture”
CBD vape oil certainly isn’t the same thing as CBD tincture, which usually consists of the same type of extract as CBD vape concentrate but watered down by carrier oils. If you tried to vape a CBD tincture, you’d wreak horrible results, and similarly, it’s usually a bad idea to put CBD vape concentrate under your tongue.
See the difference?
So, “CBD vape oil” is something designed to go in vape cartridges and be inhaled while “CBD tincture” is something that you ingest orally. Don’t get the two mixed up, and don’t try to do the same thing with one that you’d do with the other.
Breaking open a vape cartridge is risky and dangerous
Why? Well, for one, you may have noticed that CBD vape cartridges are surrounded by glass. It’s technically possible to open a vape cartridge after it has been sealed, but the process almost always involves adding tiny slivers of glass to your vape concentrate. You’ll inhale or ingest these slivers whichever way you use the contaminated concentrate, ruining your CBD oil altogether.
Tincture under the tongue, vapes for inhaling
If you have some CBD concentrate outside of a vape cartridge (CBD dabs), then that’s a totally different story. Otherwise, though, simply recognize that CBD tinctures are the only hemp products specifically designed to go under your tongue. Putting CBD vape concentrate under your tongue would certainly be wasteful and could potentially be dangerous.
Why? One simple reason
Tinctures are more bioavailable than other oral CBD products specifically because of their carrier oils. These oils improve oral bioavailability by carrying CBD through the stomach lining. While applying CBD vape concentrate under your tongue would provide some immediate effectiveness via the sublingual route, any residual effects during digestion would be greatly minimized.

Can I Use CBD Oil in my Vape Pen?
If you own a vape and you’re interested in vaping CBD oil, then there is definitely a chance that it is possible! This is because each vaporizer has its own individual set of features and functions, some vapes support dry herbs, concentrates and hash, whereas some only work for e-liquids, oils or one of the substances. In this article we will be discussing what CBD oil is, which products you can use it in, how to make your own CBD vape oil and how to use it in other devices.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil (Cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid. This is a chemical compound that acts throughout the body, including on certain parts of the brain. It is becoming increasingly popular in the health world. CBD oil comes from the cannabis plant; however, unlike its counterpart, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is responsible for the ‘high’ from cannabis, CBD, derived from the hemp plant, is non-intoxicating. CBD has been proven to have many health and wellness benefits. Once extracted from the cannabis plant, it is often diluted with a carrier such as olive or coconut oil – this improves its bioavailability and is now ingestible.
Many people use it in their cooking or as a food supplement, however, some users prefer to ingest the oil through inhalation and choose to vape the CBD oil. If you are on of these people who would like to vape CBD oil but just need to figure out how, then it’s very important that you keep reading. Which Vape Products can vape CBD oil?
Here at Nectar, we carry a variety of different types of vaporizers. They are mainly dry herb vaporizers however they do also support hash and concentrates, and we also have a couple of liquid/oil vaporizers – the HoneyBee and the Hive. With these 2 vaporizers you can fill up the pod/cartridge yourself with whatever you feel like. So, if you want to vape some CBD vape oil you can put it into the pod/cartridge and vape away, just make sure it is the right type of CBD oil as some are not intended for vaping/ingesting.
How to Vape CBD Oil
Before we get into all the technicalities of how to vape CBD oil, we first need to understand which type of CBD oil you can vape and which ones you can’t, as it can be quite dangerous and damaging if you are not using it correctly.
Using the Right Type of CBD Oil
As mentioned before, it is extremely important to understand that CBD oil and CBD vape oil are two very different things! Mixing them up is a recipe for disaster. CBD oil is edible. You can place a few drops directly into your mouth, some even drop it into their food, tea, or other drinks. If you don’t expose it to heat higher than 160℃, you can even cook with it. However, you cannot vape it.
Edible CBD oil will burn in a vaporizer, losing its potency, while also ruining your device, and leaving you with a very bad taste in your mouth. CBD vape oil, however, is for vaping only. It’s placed in a carrier liquid, such as PG and VG which are both commonly used in e-liquids. These enable the oil to be vaporized effectively without losing its potency and without burning, therefore also not damaging your device.
It is critical that you never eat or cook with CBD vape oil as it’s not designed for ingestion, and that you also never vape CBD oil as it is not designed for vaping and will damage your device.
How to Vape CBD Vape Oil
Now that we have distinguished the difference between CBD oil and CBD vape oil, we can move onto how to actually vape it! If you are using a device that is similar to the Nectar Hive or Nectar HoneyBee, then you will be refilling empty cartridges yourself.
To do this, you can either purchase a ready made CBD vape oil, or you can make the vape oil yourself. If you are using a ready made CBD vape oil, then simply open up your empty pod/cartridge, use your syringe to load up the necessary amount of vape oil, then transfer and diffuse it into the empty pod/cartridge. Once you have filled it almost full, you can put the lid back on or close the pod/cartridge and you are good to go!
If you would prefer not to refill the cartridges yourself then you can purchase a pre-filled CBD vape oil cartridge and use that in your vaporizer if it is compatible.
How to Make CBD Cartridges
Unfortunately, as we discovered earlier, it is not possible to vape CBD oil, only CBD vape oil can be vaped. However, this does not mean that you cannot make your own CBD vape oil/juice. If you are planning on making your own CBD vape oil/juice, then set your CBD oil to the side and leave that for ingesting purposes only. To make your own CBD vape oil/juice, you will need the following…
- Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
- Propylene Glycol (PG)
- CBD Isolate/Wax/Crumble or Concentrate
- Optional Flavouring
- A Large Pan of Water
- A Large Beaker
Some people may choose to add nicotine e-liquid into this juice too, however, we recommend that you don’t as first of all it has many negative health impacts. Also, secondly, nicotine e-liquid is known to degrade CBD, which will reduce the effects of it, resulting in ultimately just wasting your CBD and money.
Step by Step Process…
Now that you have all of your ingredients and equipment ready, you need to…
- Fill your large pan full of boiling water and keep it on the heat. Leave it on a low heat level so that the water slowly simmers. Add your VG & PG into your beaker. If this is your first time then use 50/50 of each, if you’re a pro then do as you please. Then carefully place the beaker of oil into the hot water.
(Note: CBD sometimes doesn’t stay in the solution if the VG ratio is too high, so keep this in mind – the more you try this process out the better feel you will get for what works best for you.)
- Keep stirring the liquid until it reaches 60℃ – this is the optimum temperature for CBD to bins with VG & PG. Measure out your CBD to your ideal concentration. We recommend that you try to work out the concentration in mg’s per 10ml of liquid so that you don’t overdo it.
Add the CBD isolate/concentrate to the warm liquid and make sure that you keep stirring the liquid until the CBD is fully dissolved and blended in – this part can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour. It is key to be patient. Keep checking your thermometer throughout this time to maintain a steady temperature of 60℃.
- As soon as the CBD is dissolved, you can take the vape juice beaker out of the water (carefully) and leave it to cool down. Once the juice is cool, you can now add anything else you wish to your CBD vape juice! You may want to add some terps, or you may want to leave it as it is, the choice is yours!
Again, as mentioned earlier in the pre-made CBD juice, just follow those steps to transfer your oil/juice to your cartridge/pod and you are good to go.
Through this article, we found out that you actually can’t vape CBD oil, but you can vape CBD vape oil/juice!
