Direct Sowing
• Plant after frost danger when soil warms to 65°F
• Work in shovelful of compost and 1/2 cup TSC’s Complete fertilizer into hill
• Keep soil evenly moist but not wet as too much moisture causes seed to rot
• Bush varieties: sow 3-4 feet apart
• Vining varieties: sow 4-5 feet apart

• Common insects: Cucumber beetles and squash bugs
• Insect control: Pyrethrin
• Common diseases: Various wilts, leaf spots mildews, and various viral diseases
• Disease prevention: 3-4 year crop rotation, and fungicide applications

• Pumpkins require uniform irrigation totaling 15-20 inches of water during the growing season
• Bee attractant flowers or beehives will help yields — misshapen or non-developing fruit is often the result of poor pollination

Cucurbita spp. This traditional ornament of the autumn harvest is good for much more than jack-o-lanterns and pies. High in fiber and essential minerals, their colorful orange flesh signifies an abundance of the antioxidant beta-carotene.

Blanco seeds

Plant pumpkins ½” – 1” deep. For a general rule of thumb plant seed the depth of three times the thickness of the seed. Plant spacing varies depending on fruit size. If planting a large pumpkin give plant approximately 72 sq. ft. of space. Medium sized pumpkins require 30 sq. ft. of space. Pie pumpkins require 24 – 30 sq. ft. of space. Miniature pumpkins require 10 – 24 sq. ft. of space. See the Pumpkin Planting / Harvest Timing chart on page 111 of the catalog for additional information.

Clean fruit of dirt and wash in 5% chlorine solution. Let air dry and cure for 10 – 12 days. Make sure air is able to circulate around fruit. It is important to keep fruit dry.



Flattened shape, medium rib and long handle. Has shown moderate resistance to color change due to sun or light frost. Great alternative for growers who require a consistent high quality white pumpkin. The stay white gene extends the harvest window.


Harvest when fruit has developed deep color. Handles will appear dry. Cut handles with shears to protect handles from being broken off.
