I believe the best stories and most important talks take place around the table. I hope my pieces inspire dinner conversation about your families' island memories and the natural value of these Golden Isles. My wish is that because you care, you and yours will do what you can to conserve this unique place.
My childhood was amazing. I grew up on St. Catherines, an island completely dedicated to research and conservation. There is nowhere to spend money, get groceries, or attend school on the island. So when I was old enough I rode a boat to the mainland to school. However I much preferred a day spent at home exploring the marsh, climbing live oak trees, chasing wildlife, and fishing. Each evening we would sit around the table eating super, hopefully fish, and sharing the day's adventures. These stories ranged from unbelievable dolphin encounters to daily bird sightings. Of course, like all good stories, we told them over and over again.
Coastal Georgia especially the memories of my childhood are the inspiration for my art work. I make dinnerware because it makes me happy to have my stories passed around your table. Each piece is handmade by me. I try to create a sense of place or memory or just a fondness for Georgia's wildlife. Though I may retell a story from time to time each piece is unique and lovingly and prayerfully made.
